One of the greatest joys of spending a lifetime in the same community is the way that our lives are stitched together in the actual physical landscape of this town and the knowledge of the friends, family, and neighbors that came before us and the impact that each one left.
Last month we featured the Broomfield Community Foundation and the final Heart of Broomfield Awards. The event honored the legacy of Jack and Penny TerHar and their family’s giving spirit that helped shape Broomfield’s deep commitment to philanthropy. You can learn more about their Broomfield story at https://www.broomfieldfoundation.org/heart.
The list of people who have contributed to every aspect of Broomfield’s development is a long one. Indeed, you can read the list of all of the Heart of Broomfield winners over the past 25 years at https://bit.ly/4vgXLul.
As a Broomfield native myself, I am proud to call many of these people my friends and neighbors. The fact that Broomfield is now 65 years old, means that many of those who set the foundation have passed, but for some the impact is so large that it cannot and will not be forgotten.
Our Broomfield Magazine is proud to sponsor the 65 Years of Broomfield History lecture series with the Broomfield Historical Society and the Crescent Grange. Join us on June 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Crescent Grange to celebrate 65 years of the City of Broomfield with a special program honoring the legacy of Broomfield’s longest standing City Manager George Di Ciero, presented by his son, Mark Di Ciero. George served Broomfield for 43 years and was arguably the single greatest force in shaping what the City is today. You can read a detailed account of George’s impact here: https://bit.ly/4wXfAAm. Better yet, plan to attend the program at the Grange on June 16.
Mark graduated from Broomfield High School in 1989 and the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1993. Mark moved from Broomfield to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1997, where he hosted a morning radio show for nearly twenty years before moving into family law at The Abrams & Mayo Law Firm in Las Vegas as an advanced certified paralegal.
Mark comes “home” for this special program highlighting his father’s four decades leading Broomfield, and the significant events and important people, places, and spirit that shaped our community during that time.
